Removable Complete Denture

Loss of teeth may occur due to various reasons like cavities in teeth, diseases of gums and supporting structures of teeth, trauma to teeth or jaw etc. Whenever possible and convenient, replacement by fixed teeth is the most preferred option. However in certain cases, where the condition of teeth or jaws is such that the replacement with fixed teeth is not possible, (Financial)? replacement with complete denture in cases with complete loss of teeth or removable partial denture or cast partial denture where some of the teeth are present are the most preferred options.

The residual bone and soft tissues that remain after teeth loss are known as residual ridges or Edentulous arches. Complete dentures are designed in such a way to get accurately seated on residual ridges so as to obtain maximum support. The amount of fit and support that can be obtained from the dentures depend on the remaining amount of residual ridges.

The more area in upper arch makes upper denture more favourable for retention as compared to lower arch where the arches are smaller. Also in lower arch, the muscle attachments and tongue movements make it more difficult for denture to retain.

When the number of teeth missing is more than fixed teeth or removable complete denture can not replace, the removable partial denture is the best option available.

In cases where long span teeth need to be replaced, proper fit of teeth can not be achieved with fixed teeth, and there are bone and soft tissue defects or more number of spaces in between teeth ore more bone loss with existing teeth present adjacent to lost teeth removable partial denture are the better option.

Planning treatment for adolescent or adult patients needs three major objectives to care for:

  • Mastication and speech function
  • Dental and smile esthetics
  • Maintaining the integrity of remaining hard and soft oral tissues

To maintain masticatory and dental functions proper and harmonious relationship with artificial denture teeth and natural teeth is necessary .and speech and esthetic functions can be maintained with the proper fit of nondental parts of partial denture with form and function in harmony with tongue cheeks and lips size form and functions. Also, the size, shape and form of artificial teeth with proper positioning will enhance smile esthetics.

The most important thing is to keep in mind the integrity of existing or remaining hard and soft oral tissues and musculature. But is inevitable to maintain them without enough mouth opening; correct and adequate preparations and denture designs and proper periodic follow-ups are must with post-operative instructions and at-home personal care.

Additional dental procedures are also required to make the environment healthy for RPD.

Computer-Aided Design and CAM stand for Computer-Aided Manufacturing, has been implemented in the fabrication of dental prostheses for many years. The current advancement of r technology has made patient representations instead of gypsum casts by using geometric analysis tools. In addition, the technology has advanced RPD. The digital model can be used to design and print the framework design in resin, casting metal frameworks, or printing the metal or resin frameworks directly to make RPD.

What are the Number of Appointments for Fabrication of Dentures?

There are different steps for fabrication of a denture. These steps are required to obtain proper fit, natural-like appearance and harmony of muscles and temporomandibular joints. These steps require around 4-5 appointments.
