1. Maxillo Facial Prosthetic Services after Oral Cancer or Mucormycosis treatment

After the surgical and radiation treatment of oral cancer, patients usually have problems with chewing, and many times feel embarrassing going in public because of the altered look. Same way, we have seen so many cases of Mucormycosis after covid pandemic, where, whole upper jaws were resected to save life of patients. Now, they have miserable life to live without upper jaw and teeth. Chewing and Aesthetics both are problems now.

CASE STORY 1

In this case, person develops Mucormycosis after covid infection and then, in emergency, whole of his upper jaw (Maxilla bone) was removed and his life was saved. But, after some time, he started feeling problems with regurgitation of food and difficulty in chewing, speaking and the look. After thorough examination and investigations, we explored many options for him including quad zygomatic implants, but even zygomatic bone was not enough spared, and we finally decided to go for patient specific implants in Ahmedabad. Through his dicom files, 3D printed bone model was generated and with the help of 3D Incredible, a customised design of subperiosteal implants was developed. After verification and all checkpoint considerations, the implant was 3D printed. After proper sterilization, we fixed this subperiosteal implant surgically and over that, given the prosthesis and teeth.

Such treatments can change the life of a patient, who had lost hopes and interest in life. With new fix teeth with such maxillofacial prosthesis in Ahmedabad, he has started living a confident and happy life, again.

CASE STORY 2

Fix Teeth Over Quad Zygomatic Implants in a case of resected upper jaw due to Mucormycosis:

In this case, after jaw resection surgery due to Mucormycosis, patient had severe problems with his life style, food, speaking and self-confidence. We performed zygomatic implants and given him fix teeth to chew. With new fix teeth, he is happily living his life and enjoying new life at the fullest.

2. Treatment of Oral submucous Fibrosis (OSMF) & Restricted Mouth Opening

a. Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) occurs usually with the use of betel nut (Supari). People usually consume Paan, Gutkha or Pan masala, all of them contain areca nut (supari) which is responsible for developing fibrous bands beneath the oral mucosa. Different grades of oral submucous fibrosis can be there depending on use of betel nut and body response.

b. Restricted mouth opening is the common complain, people will develop as the oral submucous fibrosis develops more. Previously their mouth opening would be 3 to 4 fingers wide, but now with the developing OSMF, their mouth opening could be 1 to 2 fingers wide only or even lesser. This result in difficulty in eating and maintaining oral dental hygiene. If some tooth treatment is needed, then, in that case, also there would be limited options of treatment available.

c. At 32 PEARLS, we can provide treatment of submucous fibrosis in Ahmedabad. There are various treatment options available depending on the complexity of the case and host factors. Common treatments we advise for restricted mouth opening and oral submucous fibrosis are:

• Advise quitting habit of betel nut chewing
• Mouth opening exercises
• Fibrotomy (Laser or surgical)
• Injections therapy
• Naso Labial Flap surgery
• Various combinations of above plans

3. Treatment of Cysts & Tumours

• Cyst and tumour of jaw can be occurred at any age, usually resulting into pain and swelling over jaw; many times, cyst and tumours are diagnosed in routine clinical and x-ray examinations and patient may not have any symptoms or discomfort at all.
• Cyst and tumours are treated by surgeries usually and they require careful assessment, planning and speciality approach.
• We are providing treatment of cyst and tumour of jaws under local anaesthesia well as general anaesthesia.

4. Treatment of Jaw Fractures

• Jaw fractures may occur due to injury over face or jaw due to accident, during sports activity or during interpersonal violance.
• Jaw fractures can be treated with two methods.
  • Close methods - with use of wires
  • Open methods - With use of Plates and screws.
• We are offering treatment of jaw fractures by close and open methods under local as well as general anaesthesia.

5. Temporomandibular joint Disorders - Diagnosis and their treatment

• Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJD) origins from variety of aetiology and most of the time patients are unaware of it.
• TMJD usually cause pain over face, jaw muscles, clicking on opening and closing mouth, pain over jaw joint.
• TMJD can be treated with conservative and surgical methods. we are providing treatment for TMJD under local anaesthesia as well general anaesthesia.
• Many cases of Temporo-Mandibular Joint Disorders can be treated non surgically, with stabilization splints, with medications or with different combinations of the above options.

6. Orthognathic surgery and Distraction Osteogenesis

• These surgeries are known as corrective jaw surgeries usually used to correct face and jaw deformity occured due to growth problem or due to other reason.
